Storytelling in New Mexico
Storytelling is unique in its blended use of language, voice, and movement to engage listeners, convey narrative flow and express feeling as it both captures and communicates the past. For many, storytelling is a profession, a way of life, and a practice that links people to place and threads generations together. The traditional communities of New Mexico have strong storytelling traditions and value story as a key mode of sharing, shaping, and preserving their culture. An array of organizations and programs in New Mexico support, collect, and cultivate local stories and storytelling. The links below present a small sampling of the subjects and styles of storytellers of all ages. Open and scroll down to listen |
