EVCC Annual Christmas Party and Gift Giveaway

1/18/2020

On December 15th, 2019, the El Valle Community Center celebrated the holidays with its annual Christmas Party and gift give-away. Over 100 participants attended the afternoon event, including families with young children, high school students, and community members.  The event was held in the dining room, which was festooned with holiday decorations, lights, and a decorated Christmas tree. Festivities included gingerbread house making and decorating and an appearance by Santa, who distributed a gift to every child present.
During the event, center and library staff circulated to collect sign-ups for a free raffle and provide information about the importance of rural participation in the upcoming 2020 Census.

Historic Marker Notes the History of the El Valle Community

Picture
The El Valle  Community Center occupies the old Villanueva School building, built in the 1940s to replace a one room school house.  After the school closed its doors in the 1970s, community effort revitalized the building, turning it into a community center under the leadership of Patricia Gallegos.
The building also houses the Villanueva David F. Cargo Library, named for the former governor.  Operating as a single unit, the library and the center are now used for community and educational activities.
